Junior Cloud Engineer (AWS)

Codomotive is hiring a Junior Cloud Engineer to work full-time, as a dedicated resource, on a client's AWS environment. You will upgrade and maintain the infrastructure, own day-to-day DevOps work and follow established SOPs for deployment, logging and patching.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute AWS infrastructure upgrades and ongoing maintenance as per the agreed roadmap (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, load balancers, auto scaling).
• Own day-to-day DevOps work: CI/CD pipelines, environment provisioning, configuration management and release support.
• Operate and improve monitoring, logging and alerting (CloudWatch and related tooling); take part in incident response and root-cause analysis.
• Apply OS and security patches on schedule; perform routine hardening, backups and housekeeping.
• Follow, maintain and improve the SOPs for deployment, log tracing, security patching and cloud maintenance.
• Keep infrastructure defined as code and under version control; document changes and runbooks.
• Track cloud costs and flag optimisation opportunities.
• Join daily stand-ups with the client's team and send a monthly summary of work completed.

Must-have Skills

• AWS (mandatory): 2+ years of hands-on work with core services — EC2, VPC (subnets, security groups, routing), IAM (roles and policies), S3, RDS, CloudWatch, ELB/ALB and Auto Scaling.
• Linux administration: comfortable on the command line — users and permissions, services, networking basics, log inspection, troubleshooting.
• Scripting: Bash plus Python or a similar language for automation.
• Infrastructure as code: working knowledge of Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• CI/CD: built or maintained pipelines in GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or AWS CodePipeline.
• Containers: Docker fundamentals — images, registries (ECR), running containers on ECS or EC2.
• Git: everyday use of branches, pull requests and reviews.
• Security basics: least-privilege IAM, patching discipline, secrets handling, encryption at rest and in transit.

Good to Have

• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Solutions Architect – Associate or SysOps Administrator – Associate.
• Kubernetes (EKS) or ECS in a real deployment.
• Observability tooling beyond CloudWatch — Grafana, Prometheus, ELK/OpenSearch, Datadog.
• Centralised logging and log-tracing setups (CloudWatch Logs Insights, Fluent Bit, X-Ray).
• Cost optimisation — right-sizing, reserved/spot instances, AWS Cost Explorer and budgets.
• Backup and disaster-recovery practice — AWS Backup, snapshots, multi-AZ.
• Serverless (Lambda, API Gateway) and managed messaging (SQS, SNS).
• Experience working directly with an overseas client team.

Experience, Education & Working Style

• Minimum 2 years in a cloud, DevOps, SRE or systems administration role, with AWS as the primary platform.
• B.Tech / B.E. / BCA / MCA in Computer Science, IT or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Clear written and spoken English; comfortable on client calls and in writing runbooks and status updates.
• Ownership mindset — follows through on tickets, documents what was done, escalates early.
• Willing to overlap working hours with the client's time zone as agreed.
• Curious about new tooling and keen to keep learning.
